I belong to the fraternity of corporate trainers. I am one of the founder members and the Director of INSIGNIA Solutions Private Limited, a Corporate Training and Organization Development Consultancy in India. I hold a Post Graduate Degree in Chemistry (Delhi University), a Business Management Degree (Amity University) and am also currently pursuing an Organization Development Certification Programme (Indian Society for Applied Behavioural Science i.e. ISABS).
I spent my initial professional years with health and publishing industries at various capacities. My seven years of work experience spans the areas of Laboratory testing, Calibration, Product Development, ISO Certification, Documentation, Customer handling etc.
In March 2003, I started my entrepreneurial journey with Insignia Solutions Private Limited. Currently my role is to spearhead the Research and Development wing, and to impart various soft skill training programmes to corporate of repute, and also educational / social sectors. we have also ventured into Organization development Consultancy. Customization is our USP.

My professional roles include engaging and co-partnering with corporate, educational institutes and social sectors in customizing, designing, imparting training programmes and providing consultancy for organization development. As a corporate speaker, trainer and motivational coach, my interaction involves people from various spectrum of life like CEOs to Workmen, Teachers to Students, Social Leaders to Activists.
Over twelve years of existence in this fraternity, I have travelled the length and breadth of the country and also some parts of the world. It is quite challenging and interesting to engage with people on varied topics, because it triggers a two-way process of learning, understanding and evolving. It sometimes brings a huge paradigm shift in life and perception.

There is no single point which I can highlight as I dislike about my profession. But, there are certain challenges, which can not be ignored:
Working hours, holidays , days a week etc for a Corporate Trainer?
Minimum 10-12 working hours in a day. The schedule is flexible.
Are you engaged in job related work even after working hours?
At times for our own regular up-gradation and networking. Also, it happens that participants try to interact on a personal basis.
Work location & job availability in different countries ?
Organization Development is evolving in almost all the countries. Training and Development is an established area in all the countries. Many organizations prefer to have their panel of internal trainers. So, tremendous scope for both Organization Development and Training Consultancy.
When an organization recruits an Internal Trainer, initially the person does training co-ordination and also starts imparting training programmes. It varies according to the organization. Slowly the Internal trainers start customizing the programmes as per the competencies. Later on, the individual may grow to head the Training department of an organization. In India, salary starts approximately at Rupees Fifteen Thousand per month and it can grow to a good amount. Everything depends upon the individuals.
How to become a Corporate Trainer?
Any individual holding Post Graduate degree of any stream who has a flair for training can enter into this field. Still, MBA from an institute of repute would be an added advantage.
For certifications, one can opt for ISTD, Delhi (Indian Society for Training and Development) trainers’ certification programme. Many other organizations conduct Master Trainer Certification programmes which they announce as per their schedule.
If one wants to pursue career in USA, then ASTD’s certification programme (American Society for Training and Development) would add value.
As far as Organization Development Consultancy is concerned, ISABS’s ODCP (Indian Society for Applied Behavioural Science, Organization Development Certification programme) is of value.
The age and experience criteria are same as that of any other profession when an individual opts to be an internal trainer for the organization. When an individual chooses to become an independent consultant, age is not a bar. More the experience, much more advantage as a consultant or a corporate trainer.

It is said that any product or service increases in value when it starts becoming dearer. Taking that analogy further, I would say that civil engineers would start getting a good pay when their supply lags their demand. According to a survey carried out by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, the demand for civil engineers will increase to four lacs by 2020.
It further says that there are merely 65,000 civil engineering professionals available as of today. Moreover, nobody knows how many of them are employment worthy. A special report prepared by a website www.gadgetninja.in which researches trends in the field of education, has brought out the fact that by the year 2020, civil engineering will be in great demand and civil engineers will start getting the respect and value they deserve.
This is because the Indian government has declared that it will spend INR 56,000,000,000,000 for India’s development. They are going to spend this amount on infrastructure and homes for the low-income group of people. Thus, I would advise those who are going for engineering in the near future, to choose civil engineering as their field of specialization. As indicated in my first article on this site, civil engineering is one of the core branches of engineering and although its demand may wane, it will never go out of fashion.
In addition, the contribution of the development sector to the GDP of the country is said to be second only to agriculture. This sector is the second largest employer after agriculture. Looking at all this, we can safely conclude that the demand for civil engineers will only improve.
Since 1990, computer engineering and information technology has been the field of engineering that has been in much demand. Due to this, the number of seats for this field was more. However, all this is changing now. The following facts is likely to enhance the demand for civil engineers in the market.
The current slack in the property market may make life for fresh civil engineers very difficult, what with good jobs difficult to come by and those that are on offer not paying much. The current situation is very critical, what with no sale of residential properties and consequently, no new project launches by eminent builders. However, all this is likely to improve very soon, what with the government announcing their plans to lower stamp duty and registration charges in property transactions. This will bring down the prices of real estate to affordable levels, thus leading to an increase in its sale.
A civil engineer may be either a diploma holder or a degree graduate. Normally, a fresh civil engineering diploma holder may earn an entry-level salary of Rs10,000 to 15,000 per month in a good company, which values its employees. This figure will entirely depend on the skill level of the candidate (displayed by his performance in the final exams). The college from where you have graduated also has a bearing on your entry-level salary. Graduates from the IITs and RECs get better entry-level jobs at better pay packages because they receive superior training in their colleges.
Even graduates from government colleges are likely to get a good break in the industry, provided they have passed their course with distinction. A Fresh civil engineering graduate from a reputed college is likely to get a salary of around INR 25,000 in an entry-level job opportunity. This salary is will only increase with time and experience. Research conducted by a website payscaleShows that the average salary for experienced civil engineers in India is Rs4, 14,902. This may go up depending upon the skill level of the professional. Professionals who are skilled in Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office and Project Management are likely to draw much more.
The graph at the above link shows that experienced civil engineering professionals working in the structural design consultancy sector draw comparatively less than those working in hard-core construction do. Similar is the case with professionals working in environmental consulting. This is only true for professionals engaged in a job. For civil engineering professionals who have started out on their own as either structural consultants or environmental consultants or even as project management consultants, the remuneration may touch the sky.
Here it is pertinent to mention that project management professionals are likely to earn more than their counterparts in other fields Thus, it can be said that if you are looking for money, then you will do well to pursue a career in project management or hard-core construction. However, if you are looking for respect and value, then working in a consultancy is a good option.
As far as overseas jobs are considered, the entry-level package for a civil engineer in USA is close to 18 lakh per annum. Similarly, in Singapore, the starting package for a degree civil engineer is nothing less than Rs12 lakh. Even in countries like Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, civil engineers are very much in demand. There is a lot of money for civil engineers overseas as compared to that in India.
This is because the field is much more developed abroad than it is in India. In countries abroad, workers in this field work in shifts and there is a different set of people working in different shifts. This is because work goes on for 24 hours. However, this is not the case in India. In India, the same set of people is made to work for longer hours without paying them any overtime. However, all this is expected to change with a number of multinational companies coming to India to do business in the development sector.
Therefore, we have seen that the prospects for civil engineers are very good in the years to come provided the professional is good at what he does. So, I would advise all students to try to understand the practical application of what they are learning and not learn things by rote. This will make their studies easier and help them in their practical lives. I would further advise students not to cram their lessons and understand what they are studying because innovation is the need of the hour in this industry and innovation can only happen if people understand what they are doing and why.
